Operator of Dreambox TV Must Pay Over $1 Million or Face Prison

The operator of Dreambox TV and other IPTV outlets in the United Kingdom must pay back over 950,000 pounds (over $1 million USD) or face 6 more years in prison.

In 2019, three men were convicted for running illegal IPTV services and faced a total of 17 years behind bars.

Steven King was the leader of the operation that provided streaming content to subscribers that “defrauded the English Premier League.”

The operators of Dreambox TV and other IPTV outlets in the United Kingdom must pay back over 950,000 pounds (over $1 million USD) or face 6 more years in prison.

King was sentenced to a total of seven years and four months in prison for his involvement.

His associates, Paul Rolston and Daniel Malone, also received extensive sentences for their role in the operation.

These IPTV entities ran under the names Dreambox, Dreambox TV Limited, and Digital Switchover Limited.

The three individuals had provided illegal access to Premier League football to more than 1,000 pubs and homes throughout England and Wales.

The Premier League General Counsel Kevin Plumb stated the following on the situation:

“This result clearly shows that supplying illegal streams is a criminal offense leading to prison sentences and significant financial consequences. We are pleased the courts have recognized the seriousness of piracy-related crimes and the Premier League has requested all money recovered goes back to public bodies, including law enforcement agencies, to help them continue the fantastic work they do in helping bring people like this to justice.”

But the troubles were much worse for Steven King who is now faced with another challenge in order to avoid more jail time.

According to a press release from the Premier League, King has been ordered by the court to pay back the proceeds of his activities or face extended time in prison.

“At Warwick Crown Court today, he has been ordered to forfeit the proceeds of his criminal activities and pay back £963,000 within three months, or face having his prison sentence extended by an additional six years and eight months.”

This is not the first instance we’ve seen with the Premier League and other copyright authorities coming after IPTV operators.

Overall, it will be interesting to see what happens with Steven King and his associates in the long run.
