Rojadirecta Sports Streaming Site Ordered to Pay Over $500,000

According to reports and an official press release, Rojadirecta has been ordered to pay over €500,000 in damages to Mediaset.

This comes after various countries including the UK, Denmark, and Uruguay have ordered Internet service providers (ISPs) to block the Rojadirecta website.
Most recently, the well-known media company Mediaset Italia pursued legal action against Rojadirecta in an Italian court.
The lawsuit alleged copyright infringement and was ultimately ruled by the court of Rome.
A verdict was eventually reached which included Rojadirecta paying over €500,000 for copyright damages in addition to €24,786.00 for interest and legal fees.
The official press release from Mediaset states the following on the situation:
“The Court found Rojadirecta’s full responsibility for having put a available to the public in an unlawful and systematic way all sports rights acquired by Mediaset since 2010. Rojadirecta was sentenced to compensate Mediaset with the sum of € 529,579.50 in addition to € 24,786.00 for interest and legal fees.”
The press release also goes on to note that Rojadirecta was ordered to compensate Mediaset Italia for copyright infringement audiovisuals with commercial exploitation.
This total settlement number of €529,579.50 seems mild when compared to previous IPTV shutdowns we have seen.
