Northern IPTV Service Shut Down by ACE – What Happened?
Northern IPTV has officially been shut down by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE).
Northern IPTV was a popular IPTV Service used by thousands of cord-cutters across the world.
The official website of Northern IPTV is now offline and will not be coming back.
If you visit the original Northern IPTV domain, you will be greeted with the following screen from ACE:
According to a press release from ACE’s official website, they stated the following regarding the Northern IPTV service.
“Northern IPTV was an Ontario based IPTV subscription service with over 2200 live channels and video-on-demand (VOD) content. Pricing ranged between $17.85- $45.00 with over 50% of the services customers originating in Canada.”
Therefore, it appears Northern IPTV was illegally distributing live channels and VOD content they did not own the rights of.
Also in that press release, the Executive Vice President and Chief of Global Content Protection for the MPA stated the following about the shutdown:
“This is an important step in ACE’s ongoing efforts to reduce piracy in Canada and throughout the global creative ecosystem. We will continue to protect our creative workforce and the content it creates.”
However, if you do a quick Google search for “Northern IPTV” you will find a website claiming to be the official service.
After doing more research, we actually found it was BestBuyIPTV pretending to be “Northern IPTV.”
