GoFastIPTV Service Settles with BREIN for $70,000 in Damages
This IPTV Wire news report covers GoFastIPTV facing a settlement from anti-piracy group BREIN.
GoFastIPTV was a live TV service that claimed to have thousands of customers throughout the world.
This live TV provider provided thousands of live channels, VOD, PPV, and other content.
GoFastIPTV Faces Settlement from BREIN
According to reports and an official press release, the anti-piracy group BREIN has been targeting hundreds of pirate IPTV services, players, and tools over the past few years.
BREIN is an anti-piracy group based in the Netherlands with a slogan that states “the art of protecting the creative.”
Recently, BREIN’s latest target appears to be a pirate IPTV provider called “GoFastIPTV.”
This chase for the operators of GoFastIPTV reportedly went all over the world through companies in Brazil and the UK.
A major piece of evidence that led BREIN and other authorities to the GoFastIPTV operators was the use of the Dutch Rabobank to process payments.
BREIN took matters to court and Rabobank was then forced to cooperate and handed over payment data.
All of this information eventually led BREIN to track down the operators of GoFastIPTV in South America of all places.
But since the settlement from BREIN, the GoFastIPTV website is no longer operational.
Communication and legal procedures from BREIN followed and this eventually led to a €70,000 settlement with the former operator of GoFastIPTV.
The other caveats to this settlement also include a fine of €25,000 per day if the GoFastIPTV service is ever restored and a €10,000 fine for each future infringement.
According to the official BREIN press release, they stated the following on this situation:
“The settlement consists of a statement of abstention with a penalty clause of 25,000 euros per day and 10,000 euros per infringement (ie offered IPTV package, hyperlink or another reference) as well as compensation of 70,000 euros, part of which is conditional.”
This total settlement number of €70,000 seems mild when compared to previous IPTV shutdowns we have seen.
