The popular 2Embed website has been shut down by ACE.

The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) is a global anti-piracy organization that is responsible for shutting down hundreds of pirate streaming sites.

When it comes to IPTV services, streaming apps, and streaming websites, there are thousands of verified and unverified options to choose from.

We have no idea which streaming apps/sites hold the proper licensing for the content they broadcast, and we rely on reports from ACE like this one to better inform our visitors about the legality of streaming websites.

In a monumental stride in the fight against piracy, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) has successfully put a halt to the operations of 2Embed, a high-profile provider of pirate video content.

Acting as a piracy as a service vendor, 2Embed has supplied a plethora of streaming platforms with illicit copies of movies and TV shows, making it a significant player in the piracy realm.

In the not-so-distant past, torrent sites and direct download portals served as the primary hubs of pirated content.

Today, however, the spotlight has turned to pirate streaming platforms that provide an on-demand viewing experience akin to legitimate services, thereby driving their popularity through the roof.

As a result, a fresh breed of piracy-focused entrepreneurs has emerged, offering ‘piracy as a service.’ This includes platforms that offer access to comprehensive libraries of pilfered content, allowing streaming platforms to embed movies and TV shows onto their sites.

The result is that operators of such sites no longer require sourcing and storing content, but instead connect to an Application Programming Interface (API), thereby automating the process.

2Embed was one such pirate library that changed the dynamics of the piracy game. Providing access to a library of pirated streaming links for 300,000 movies and TV shows, it allowed these to be effortlessly embedded onto any website using an IMDb ID for reference.

This unprecedented operation has, understandably, made it a significant adversary of the movie industry.

Despite facing accusations by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), which led to 2Embed being reported to the U.S. Trade Representative multiple times, the piracy platform managed to continue its operations for a long time. However, the concerns of Hollywood did not go unnoticed.

Consequently, the U.S. Trade Representative and the European Commission identified 2Embed as a notorious source of piracy, prompting Vietnamese authorities to get involved due to the platform’s apparent connection to the country.

This sequence of events led to ACE’s significant victory, following negotiations with 2Embed’s operator based in Hanoi, Vietnam.

2Embed Shutdown Impacts Streaming Sites

As per ACE’s chief, Jan van Voorn, the shutdown of 2Embed led to a domino effect. Numerous streaming platforms that relied exclusively on 2Embed for their content were deeply affected, with many still struggling to recover.

According to van Voorn, among the 457 identified sites, 302 are now unavailable or devoid of content, and these sites received a staggering combined 2.756 billion visits over the past two years.

Some popular streaming sites that were impacted include Fmovies, Zoro, TV Film, and several others.

Simultaneously, ACE and MPA are strengthening their relationships with Vietnamese authorities to tackle the issue further.

In a recent meeting with officials from Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, the Deputy Minister requested ACE and MPA to share intelligence to curb online piracy and copyright infringement.

In the rapidly evolving world of piracy, this event serves as a cautionary tale for pirate service providers, emphasizing that the war against piracy is not slowing down. Rather, it is progressing with increased determination and international cooperation.

Overall, we are curious to find out which pirate streaming sites are next on ACE’s target list. We will always keep our visitors informed on the latest streaming news when the information is released.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen notable streaming sites get shut down by ACE and other anti-piracy authorities.
